Comet Project

"Comet" is the provisional name of the project while I progress through the early stages of its development.

About the Game

Year 2045: World War III has broken out!

The conflict has reached space, creating a huge amount of debris from the destruction of satellites and combat ships. In the game, your goal is to control a small ship to collect space junk and prevent the Kessler Syndrome from being triggered.

You won't have any weapons!

So you'll need to rely on the laws of physics and whatever you find floating in space to defend yourself from enemy attacks while completing your mission of cleaning Earth's orbit before it's too late.

This image was generated using AI for illustrative purposes and does not represent the final vision or art of the game. As soon as possible, I will replace it with official game artwork.

Game Features

This game aims to stand out from classic space shooters by introducing mechanics where, for the most part, there are no weapons. Mastering the ship's controls and using your ingenuity will be key to overcoming the challenges.

  • Third-person spaceship game with an isometric view.

  • You must avoid collisions with space debris and collect it as quickly as possible.

  • The more debris you carry, the harder it will be to control the ship due to inertia.

  • Different types of enemy NPCs will chase you and try to eliminate you.

  • The player will have access to "power-ups," but no weapons.

  • To defend yourself, you'll have to use your wits and the objects you find around you.

  • Two game modes: campaign with a story and endless mode.

  • Procedural generation of environments.

  • Unexpected events that can alter the game, such as meteor showers or missile attacks from Earth's surface.

  • Currently on development only for PC.

  • Two control options: gamepad or keyboard and mouse.

Development

I am currently working on a playable prototype that will consist of the game's endless mode and will serve to polish and perfect the gameplay, as well as to start spreading the word about the project. Below, you will find two links to videos I have posted on YouTube showing the prototype in development. These do not represent the final art or quality I aim to achieve, but they will give you an idea of the gameplay I am aiming for.

As I progress with the prototype, I will upload new videos. The next steps in the development of this prototype will be:

  • Enemy NPCs and their interactions.

  • Power-ups.

  • Random events that can alter the game.

  • Procedural level generation system.

  • Progression system that allows saving the game between levels.

Once these objectives are achieved, I will be able to present the prototype, which will be uploaded to "itch.io", collect feedback, and refine the gameplay to move forward with the next steps of the project.

What is the Kessler Syndrome?

Earlier, I mentioned the Kessler Syndrome, and some might think of the "Kessel Run" from Star Wars... but no, it’s not that.

The Kessler Syndrome is a chain reaction that could happen if one or more satellites collide with each other or with other objects in Earth's orbit, generating a cloud of debris moving at high speed. This debris could destroy more satellites in its path, worsening the situation exponentially. A fairly convincing visual representation of this theory can be seen in the movie Gravity. Although I recommend watching the trailer to understand the concept, that is not the vision for the game.

If the Kessler Syndrome were to occur, it would destroy all satellites, forcing us to revert to the technology of the early 20th century.
